Hello Members and Friends,
Well, what a week it has been for your club!
Our special guest on Friday night was the Hon Stephen Mulligan MP and after giving us an informative insight into his background he was invited to draw the Member's Cash draw of $1,200 which was won by Andrea Woods! Congratulations to Andrea and everyone else who attended on Friday and supported the club. The cash draw will recommence early next year and everyone is reminded that you must be financial to be in the draw so please renew your 2018 membership as soon as you can so you don't miss out.
In June this year the State Government launched one of the world's largest "Fund my Neighbourhood" programs which gave South Australians the power to nominate and choose neighbourhood improvement projects to share in $40M in funding over a two year period. The program asked for public submissions of ideas worth funding, then called for members of the public to vote for their favourites. Your committee submitted a nomination for funds for the club to undertake major improvements including the bathrooms and kitchen and on Friday I was very pleased to be informed that the Semaphore Port Adelaide RSL sub branch had been awarded the maximum available funding of $150,000. On Saturday, Secretary Julie Barry and myself attended a function and were presented with a cheque for $150,000 by Premier Jay Weatherill.
I'd like to send a massive thank you to those who worked so hard to access the eligibility criteria, complete and then submit the nomination and also to those members of the community who voted for our project. The funds will enable us to undertake well needed renovations to our hall. I would like to thank other local organisations who weren't successful this year and remind them that the second round of funds will be available next year and encourage them to try again.
The award winning Semaphore Street Fair was held on Sunday and there was a huge number of visitors. We held a sausage sizzle in front of the club and it was a successful event thanks to the support of those members who helped.
I'd like to acknowledge the great job that our chef Stephen Nassaris is doing in preparing mouth-watering meals for members and guests and also give a big thank you to his regular volunteer helpers in the kitchen Maggie and Marta.
This Friday night sees Galaxy Karaoke back in the clubrooms and as it's the last karaoke night of the year we hope to get as many attend as possible, so lets finish that off with a bang.
Don't forget next week is Open Mic night on Thursday 7 December - mark that one in your diary as it's always a great night
I look forward to seeing you in the clubrooms.
